Rural areas situated in the mountain regions have specific features, different from the other rural areas. The agriculture is developed on small surfaces and is not enough competitive to assure high incomes for the local population. On the other hand, the major part of the agriculture activities protects the ecosystems and provides food with specific properties.

At European level it was developed a concept and a framework regarding the mountain regions and the food produced in these regions and there are a big number of case studies which can be used as best practices to develop a local strategy for producing and promoting mountain local food. Also, the local population is encouraged to use the European Label system for traditional food and to obtain European labels for their products.

Our study aims to support the local authorities from mountain regions of Suceava County in the process of getting the Mountain food label for the most significant local food products. This initiative will have a positive impact on the local development and on the well-being of the population from rural mountain areas.
